| Abstract: | The article reveals the mythological aspects of the accession ritual in the Indo-Aryan tradition "Rajasuya" in the context of parallel mythological traditions of the Indo-European peoples and civilizations of the Middle East. In particular, the motives of the preliminary journey of the pretender to the kingdom, ritual feasts-feeding of the owners of certain territories of his future kingdom and great divine ancestors, "coronation to the kingdom" as a sacred marriage with a representative of "Mother Earth-and-Water", the performance of a special sacrifi as the apotheosis of the civilizing mission of the king, the visit of subjects to the one who has ascended to the throne in his residence, mutual gifts with elements of the spirit of competition and rivalry between parts of the guests in the presence of an obligatory "mediator-witness", as well as the taking of oaths, the repetition of this ritual as a holiday (Navruz, Akitu, Hassumas, "heb-sed") at certain intervals with the sacrifice of either the "depleted king" himself or the "deputy king", etc. are distinguished. |
