Abstract

Adamovych Sergii. The Formation of Memory Policy During the Presidency of V. Yushchenko This article analyzes the process of forming memory policy in Ukraine during the presidency of V. Yushchenko. It examines the transition from an ambivalent model of historical policy to a Ukraine-centric narrative. It highlights the institutionalization of memory policy through the creation of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, as well as initiatives to shape a unified national history, reinterpret the Soviet past, and popularize Ukrainian historical figures and events. The article analyzes commemorative practices, the policy of recognizing the 1932–1933 Holodomor as genocide, and the beginning of the opening of the archives of punitive and repressive agencies. Particular attention is paid to regional differences in the perception of history, memory conflicts, and political confrontation over symbolic space. The influence of external factors is also examined, particularly Russia’s opposition to the formation of an independent Ukrainian historical policy. The conclusion is drawn that the policy of memory during V. Yushchenko’s presidency was contradictory in nature; while it had limited consolidating effectiveness, it contributed to the spread of a national historical paradigm among Ukrainian society.
